Monday | 19 September

When the Lord told Moses to have the people give freely to the construction of the tabernacle, He was answering their prayer (see Exodus 33) that He remain with them, that His presence would guide them.

Their reaction to this “yes” from the Lord was robust: they gave until their leaders had to tell them to give no more.

What is your response to the Lord’s presence in your life?

Tuesday | 20 September

These people of the Lord were aware that He was planning to remain with them because He directed them to build the tabernacle, a prefigurement of the relationship between God and man.

Based on what we’ve learned about the tabernacle, how does it teach the relationship between sinful man and the Holy One?

Wednesday | 21 September

The Israelites had only the shadow of what was to come.  As promised, Emmanuel – God with us – has come: His name is Jesus. In the Matthew passage this morning, Jesus promises us that He will be with us until the end of the age.

How does Jesus presence with you change the way you live?  How are you responding to His presence?  To the promise that He will be with you to the end?

David –  Five Smooth Stones | 8 September 2016

David, as a figure in the Bible, is a fascinating man. This study will take 11 weeks to look at the man, David.  We will look at him from various angles that we can relate to – son, brother, servant, husband, and father.  We will look at him as a leader (king) and as a warrior. We will be using the simple approach: reading through a passage at a time and thinking through the Gospel proclaimed, the character of David and how to apply the passage to our lives. We will bring in additional texts (1 Chronicles and the Psalms) to help us understand.

This is our reading plan:

Ascending the Hill | 8-10 September 2016

footstool-349707_1920

Prepare for the next Lord’s Day with us.  Next week, Pastor Dave will be teaching through a short passage, Exodus 35:1-3 , which is VERY appropriate for the Lord’s Day.  He will also be teaching us Matthew 22:34-46 .  The title of the sermon is Who is First?  Let’s consider this in preparation:  Why is that you keep the Lord’s Day as you do?

Thursday | 8 September

Matthew 22:34-46

Jesus stumps the Pharisees,  who supported the resurrection, by asking them how was it that David called the Lord, Lord, yet they knew that the Christ was the son of David.

What truth was Jesus pointing to by citing David?

Friday | 9 September

Psalm 110

This is the Psalm that Jesus is quoting in the Matthew passage.  The Psalm packs the truth about who Christ is and what He would do.  The writer of Hebrews also reflected on this Psalm in the first and fifth chapters, showing us that Christ is the prophet, the priest and King.

How does the truth in Psalm 110 affect your worship?

Saturday | 10 September

Hebrews 1:1-4

We learned yesterday that the writer of Hebrews demonstrates the offices of Christ: the Prophet, the High Priest and the King. In this very short passage, the writer sets up his premise.

How does the writer of Hebrews express Christ’s offices in Hebrews 1:1-3?

Descending the Hill | 5 – 7 September 2016

larch-163340_1920

Monday | 5 September

Each time Moses went into the tent of meeting, he removed the veil that covered his shining face.  Each time he left the tent, he put it back on.  This went on as long as Moses was alive. Each time you converse with the Living God, you are changed.

The last time you had a conversation with God, what happened?

Tuesday | 6 September

Moses was changed as he sought out the Lord. His face shone. His change was outward. You, likewise, have been changed.  Your change is made known outwardly as you profess your faith. Inwardly, the Lord changes you as well.  As you are sanctified by Him, you are changed, morally.

How have you changed morally?

Wednesday | 7 September

In the end, we will be changed completely.  When this life ends, we know that we are present with Christ and we are made perfect.  When He returns, we will return with Him and will be made into something new. We don’t know what we will be like, but our text from the Lord’s Day – 1John 3:1-3 – says that we will be like Him.

What about being like the risen Jesus will you enjoy the most?
