Welcome

Call to Worship

Kings of the earth and all peoples;

Princes and all judges of the earth;

12 Both young men and maidens;

Old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the LORD,

For His name alone is exalted;

His glory is above the earth and heaven.

Psalm 148:11-13

Hymn # 226 As with Gladness Men of Old

1 As with gladness men of old

did the guiding star behold;

as with joy they hailed its light,

leading onward, beaming bright;

so, most gracious God, may we

evermore be led to thee.

2 As with joyful steps they sped

to that lowly cradle bed,

there to bend the knee before

him whom heav'n and earth adore;

so may we with willing feet

ever seek thy mercy seat.

3 As they offered gifts most rare

at that cradle rude and bare;

so may we with holy joy,

pure, and free from sin's alloy,

all our costliest treasures bring,

Christ, to thee, our heav'nly King.

4 Holy Jesus, ev'ry day

keep us in the narrow way;

and when earthly things are past,

bring our ransomed souls at last

where they need no star to guide,

where no clouds thy glory hide.

5 In the heav'nly country bright

need they no created light;

thou its light, its joy, its crown,

thou its sun which goes not down;

there for ever may we sing

alleluias to our King.

Call To Confession

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Romans 12:9–14 (NKJV):

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;

Lord, hear my voice!

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You that You may be feared.

Psalm 130:1–4 (NKJV)

Confession of Sins

Let us, therefore, confess our sin, saying together:

Merciful Heavenly Father, pardon us our many sins; the sins we know and the sins hidden from our conscience. Cleanse us from wrong motives and forgive us for feeble obedience. By your Spirit renew our hearts to love you, our minds to know you, and our wills to obey you. For we ask this mercy in the name of your Son who shed his blood for us. Amen.

Word of Assurance

God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Romans 5:8–9 (NKJV)

Song of Renewal

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.

Trinity Hymnal # 521, stanza 1

Scripture Lesson:

Judges 6:11-16

Now the Angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. 12 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”

13 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”

14 Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”

15 So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

16 And the LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Sermon – Have I Not Sent You

Hymn # 453 All Authority and Power

1 All authority and power,

every status and domain,

now belongs to him who suffered

our redemption to obtain;

Angels, demons, kings and rulers

Over all shall Jesus reign!

2 All the nations owe him worship,

every tongue shall call him Lord;

how are men to call upon him

if his name they have not heard?

Therefore go and make disciples,

preach his gospel, spread his word.

3 All the clear commands of Jesus

must be heeded and obeyed;

full provision for our weakness

in his teaching he has made;

in the Gospel words and symbols

saving truth to us conveyed.

4 All the time he will be with us,

always, to the end of days;

with his own believing people

who keep steadfast in his ways;

God the Father, Son, and Spirit

bless us and to him the praise!

Prayer of the Church and the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Hymn (lyrics provided) Come, People of the Risen King

1 Come, people of the Risen King

Who delight to bring Him praise

Come all and tune your hearts to sing

To the Morning Star of grace

From the shifting shadows of the earth

We will lift our eyes to Him

Where steady arms of mercy reach

To gather children in

Refrain

Rejoice, rejoice! Let ev’ry tongue rejoice!

One heart, one voice; oh Church of Christ, rejoice!

2 Come, those whose joy is morning sun

And those weeping through the night

Come, those who tell of battles won

And those struggling in the fight

For His perfect love will never change

And His mercies never cease

But follow us through all our days

With the certain hope of peace

[Refrain]

3 Come, young and old from ev’ry land

Men and women of the faith

Come, those with full or empty hands

Find the riches of His grace

Over all the world, His people sing

Shore to shore we hear them call

The Truth that cries through ev’ry age:

"Our God is all in all"!

[Refrain]

Benediction
