Worship Service for June 18, 2023

Updated: Jun 24, 2023

Welcome Call to Worship Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. Psalm 96:1–3 (NKJV) Hymn # 172 Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder

1 Let us love and sing and wonder, let us praise the Savior's name! He has hushed the law's loud thunder, he has quenched Mount Sinai's flame; he has washed us with his blood, he has brought us nigh to God.

2 Let us love the Lord who bought us, pitied us when enemies, called us by his grace, and taught us, gave us ears and gave us eyes: he has washed us with his blood, he presents our souls to God. 3 Let us sing, though fierce temptation threaten hard to bear us down! For the Lord, our strong salvation, holds in view the conqu'ror's crown; he who washed us with his blood, soon will bring us home to God.

4 Let us wonder; grace and justice join, and point to mercy's store; when through grace in Christ our trust is, justice smiles, and asks no more: he who washed us with his blood, has secured our way to God.

5 Let us praise, and join the chorus of the saints enthroned on high; here they trusted him before us, now their praises fill the sky: "You have washed us with your blood; You are worthy, Lamb of God!"

Call To Confession

Our Lord Jesus says, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ And also, ‘Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.’

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us... If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” Let us, therefore, confess ours sins to the Lord, saying together:

1 John 1:8 (NKJV)

Confession of Sins

Almighty and Gracious Father, we confess to you that we have sinned by not loving you with our whole heart and by not loving our neighbor as ourselves. Our faith is weak and we easily give in to doubt. Forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness in thought, word and deed. For we ask this in the name of your Son, who is our sure Redeemer and our Savior. Amen.

Word of Assurance

Brothers and Sisters in Jesus, our Gracious Heavenly Father has forgiven us our sins according to His word that "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins."

Colossians 1:13–14

Gloria Patri # 735

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

Scripture Lesson:

Leviticus 4:27–31 (NKJV):

27 ‘If anyone of the common people sins unintentionally by doing something against any of the commandments of the Lord in anything which ought not to be done, and is guilty,

28 or if his sin which he has committed comes to his knowledge, then he shall bring as his offering a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he has committed.

29 And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and kill the sin offering at the place of the burnt offering.

30 Then the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour all the remaining blood at the base of the altar.

31 He shall remove all its fat, as fat is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offering; and the priest shall burn it on the altar for a sweet aroma to the Lord. So the priest shall make atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.

Matthew 9:1–8 (NKJV):

1 So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city.

2 Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

3 And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”

4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

5 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’?

6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”

7 And he arose and departed to his house.

8 Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

Sermon

Hymn # 498 Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!

1 Jesus! what a Friend for sinners! Jesus! lover of my soul; friends may fail me, foes assail me, he, my Savior, makes me whole.

Refrain: Hallelujah! what a Savior! Hallelujah! what a Friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, he is with me to the end.

2 Jesus! what a strength in weakness! Let me hide myself in him; tempted, tried, and sometimes failing, he, my strength, my vict'ry wins. [Refrain]

3 Jesus! what a help in sorrow! While the billows o'er me roll, even when my heart is breaking, he, my comfort, helps my soul. [Refrain]

4 Jesus! what a guide and keeper! While the tempest still is high, storms about me, night o'ertakes me, he, my pilot, hears my cry. [Refrain]

5 Jesus! I do now receive him, more than all in him I find; he hath granted me forgiveness, I am his, and he is mine. [Refrain]

Prayer of the Church with the Lord’s Prayer

Let us pray together as Jesus taught us:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Hymn # 290 Hail the Day That Sees Him Rise

1 Hail the day that sees him rise Alleluia! to his throne above the skies; Alleluia! Christ, the Lamb for sinners giv'n, Alleluia! enters now the highest heav'n. Alleluia!

2 There for him high triumph waits; Alleluia! lift your heads, eternal gates, Alleluia! he hath conquered death and sin, Alleluia! take the King of glory in! Alleluia!

3 See, he lifts his hands above! Alleluia! See, he shows the prints of love! Alleluia! Hark! his gracious lips bestow Alleluia! blessings on his church below. Alleluia!

4 Lord, beyond our mortal sight, Alleluia! raise our hearts to reach thy height; Alleluia! there thy face unclouded see, Alleluia! find our heav'n of heav'ns in thee! Alleluia!

Benediction
